BA (Bachelor of Arts)
Program Objective
The objective of the BA program is to develop students in to compete for any
sector of organized activity especially for the non government organization. The
program is based on the principle that graduates will spend major portion of their
lives in a constantly changing environment. Therefore, the students should have
an opportunity to obtain a broad knowledge of the concepts, and reality-based
skills, underlying the operations and management of the organizations.
Upon graduation, a student should be equipped to function as an independent
and responsible citizen to work in any circumstances. The graduates should also
have a variety of career opportunities in different sectors of government and nongovernment
organization and create much-needed job for others.
The BA program attempts to
- Equip the students with the required conceptual knowledge of recent
development in different fields of general and technical studies and equip
them with skill.
- Develop required attitudes, abilities and practical skills in students, which
constitute a foundation for their growth into competent and responsible
jobholder.
- To make students able to cope with new situations and function as well
informed educated person both in Nepal and abroad.
- Develop necessary foundation for higher studies in Humanities and social
studies and thereafter take up careers in teaching, research and consultancy.

Rural Development
The objective of the course is to make students familiar with the concept, theories and approaches
to rural development with reference to Nepal. Upon graduation the students should be able to work
as facilitators in the development of rural areas of Nepal.
English
The major English courses for the BA level are designed to introduce students to literature in English,
to western intellectual tradition, and to critical and analytical techniques and practices. The rationale
of these courses is to give students tools for systematic study and understanding of texts, and to help
them apply the tools in appreciating literacy and other texts critically and creatively. Moreover, these
courses attempt at inculcating in students a spirit of inquiry, logical reasoning and a taste for reading
good literature.
Sociology / Anthropology
The objective of the course in Sociology / Anthropology are to provide students with basic
conceptual tools to comprehend and analyze cultural and social institutions and processes, including
those unfolding in Nepal, provide students with basic skills to carry out and assess social research:
familiarize students with dominant perspectives on development at global and local levels, help
students acquire information as well as assess capability on development project.
Social Work
Social Work course is fundamentally a multidisciplinary course drawing theoretical concepts from
different social sciences, keeping social work values and principles at the core. Thus, social work education
focuses on holistic and integrated method of practice rather than reductionist approach.
Social Work education is an attempt towards the building up of knowledge base necessary for the
practice (through theory classes), learning and refinement of skills (through concurrent field work)
and imbibing necessary ethical and value base (through various exposures; supervision and constant
reflection process). Therefore, social work education can play a critical role in shaping up the overall
outlook of an individual: preparing the self as an agent for social change.
Psychology
The psychology course aims to acquaint the students with the knowledge of psychology, the different
process used in psychology and the basis of human behavior. Students get to specialize between clinical
psychology or organizational psychology from the BA psychology course.
Field or Practical work
The education of the students will be incomplete without exposure to organizational reality.
Therefore, the fieldwork has been made an essential requirement for the students.
Students will undergo a fieldwork of studying and learning form the organizations during the time fixed by
the college. After the fieldwork the students will write a field report on the format prescribed by the college
and submit it for evaluation. The students will also be asked to present the report to the general class.
Students must complete the prescribed number of practical work in all courses to the satisfaction of the
concerned professor. The final practical examination will be conducted by the Office of the Controller
of Examinations.
Admission Requirements
The candidate applying for admissions to the BA program:
Must have successfully completed the PCL or HSEB 10+2 in business/commerce/science or any
equivalent course from any board or university recognized by Tribhuvan University.
Class Hours
The Classes for BA will run from 6:30 am to 11:00 am (Morning
Shift) and from 11:30 am to 4:00 (Day Shift), pm Sunday to
Friday.
Examination & Assessments
The final examination for BA will be conducted by the Office of
the Controller of Examinations, TU, Balkhu. The examination
for BA 1st year will be held on the month of Shrawan, the
2nd year on the month of Asadh and 3rd year on the month
of Baisakh.

The BA is a 3 years Bachelor
Degree program in arts. Students
study 14 papers during this 3 year
program with each paper carrying
100 marks. Students study 4
papers in the 1st year, 5 papers in
the 2nd year and 5 papers in the
3rd year. Apart from compulsory
subjects i.e. English and Nepali,
students can take up two majors
from a wide range of subjects
offered by the university.
