MA (Rural Development)
Objective
The objective of M.A Rural Development syllabus is to enable
the students to the work as competent rural development
cadres and to meet the demand for higher-level rural
developers in government and non-government sectors
with in and outside the country.
The syllabus specifically aims to:
- Equip the students with required conceptual knowledge of
rural development.
- Make the students able to serve the current needs of
rural society.
- Enable them to translate theoretical knowledge into
actual practice in analyzing the specific issues related to
rural socio-political and economic aspects.
- Develop research capabilities in students.
- Enable students to convince users to select and apply
appropriate technology suitable for particular areas.
Main features of the present Syllabus are
- Course in appropriate technology and skill development
of 50 marks is introduced (as compulsory paper) for the
purpose of enabling the students in convincing rural users
to select appropriate technology suitable for them.
- Thesis is compulsory in the 2nd year.
- Students have an option to choose one from
- Agriculture & Rural Development.
- Co-opertive System/Gender Development.
- Natural Resources Management.
Entry Requirements
Candidates applying for admissions to the MA Rural
Development program:
Must have successfully completed the Bachelor Level of study
in any discipline or any equivalent course from any board or
university recognized by Tribhuvan University.
Class Hours
The Classes for MA will run from 6:30 am to 8:30 am Sunday
to Friday. On Saturdays from 6:30 am to 11:30 am.
Examinations & Assessments
The final examination for MA will be conducted by the Office
ot the Controller of Examinations. TU, Balkhu. The examination
for MA 1st year will be held on the month of Magh and the
2nd year on the month of Poush.

The MA in Rural Development is a two year Master
Degree Program in Arts. There are 10 papers to be
covered in this two year program.
The MA in Rural Development aims to develop rural
development cadres capable to meet the demand
for higher level rural developers in government and
non-government sectors.
